Scientists polled 19,806 Britons. The study was conducted from 2014 to 2016. People were asked to fill out a questionnaire, consisting of questions about how much time they spent in nature over the past week, and how to assess their own physical and mental state. In addition, researchers learned about respondents’ lifestyle, stressful situations, chronic diseases, and bad habits.

Scientists note that the results of their research take into account only the subjective level of respondents’ happiness. Objective physical indicators of health, the researchers did not measure.

After analyzing the questionnaires, scientists found out how much time, on average, people spent in nature talking about good physical and mental condition. As it turned out, the well-being of respondents who rest outside the city less than two hours a week was no different from the well-being of those who had never been in nature. Those who walked in the forest and at the reservoirs at least two hours a week reported a higher level of health.
