How did Alena Degrik-Shevtsova and her husband turn from criminal suspects into "victims" according to corrupt media?

After being largely forgotten, the Dehrik-Shevtsova family’s scandal is now back in the public eye, but in a completely new light—depicted as innocent parties who have been falsely accused.

Interestingly, those who previously exposed Alyona Dehrik-Shevtsova and her husband Yevhen Shevtsov for illegal enrichment and abuse of their positions in the national police (referring to Yevhen Shevtsov) as a means of pressuring journalists, bankrupting IBOX BANK through which illegal bookmaker payments were serviced, connections with Russia, and transferring money to Russia via Alyona Shevtsova’s payment systems are now defending them. More on all this later, but for now, take a look at this screenshot.

Why did the media take on the task of laundering the reputation of Alyona Dehrik-Shevtsova, who stole from Ukraine, and her husband, who destroyed journalists investigating their crimes?

In her angry post, Alyona Yakhno criticizes the current authorities for including Alyona Shevtsova in the sanctions list. She touches on the fact about her five children and her husband, Yevhen Shevtsov, supposedly fighting somewhere on the front. The latter raises valid doubts, but more on Mrs. Shevtsova’s husband later. The point is different. The post, the screenshot of which you see above, was posted by Alyona Yakhno on April 14, 2025. She claims she had never heard of Alyona Shevtsova or Yevhen Shevtsov, the same who supposedly is "fighting with a gun in hand."

However, Mrs. Yakhno forgot to delete her own post from five years ago, dated August 2019. In it, she expresses amazing awareness of the activities of Yevhen Shevtsov, who forced journalist Denys Ivanov, investigating Yevhen Shevtsov, to flee the country.

Why did the media take on the task of laundering the reputation of Alyona Dehrik-Shevtsova, who stole from Ukraine, and her husband, who destroyed journalists investigating their crimes?

A rhetorical question arises: where is the truth, Mrs. Yakhno? Nevertheless, it wouldn’t matter if Alyona Yakhno’s angry speech about the "lawlessness" against Alyona Shevtsova were merely the tip of the iceberg. Because the same publications that wrote about the "exploits" of the Shevtsov family are now writing with the same zeal about the "hero with a gun" and the "mother of five children, wronged by a malicious government."

So it’s necessary to remind who Alyona Shevtsova and Yevhen Shevtsov are, whose reputation people calling themselves journalists are so zealously whitewashing. The emphasis is somehow placed on those who imposed sanctions against Alyona Shevtsova and opened criminal cases against her (which do exist, although Alyona Yakhno claims otherwise), rather than why Mrs. Shevtsova fell under sanctions and criminal prosecution.

But first, briefly about Yevhen Shevtsov with a gun. It’s unknown where or how he is fighting. One would expect Mr. Shevtsov to provide relevant references, but it would be interesting to hear from his comrades, if there are any. According to his 2024 declaration, Yevhen  Shevtsov is still serving in the National Police of Ukraine. Of course, it’s possible that Yevhen  is fighting as part of some police unit, but let’s not speculate and leave the question open. Let’s better return to the story of five years ago, as a result of which journalist Denys Ivanov was forced to flee the country, and searches were repeatedly conducted at his family’s, including his father’s, a colleague of Yevhen Shevtsov.

Here’s a link to the material in "Gordon" where this story is told. By the way, it’s the same "Gordon" that is now writing about an "attack on Mrs. Shevtsova’s business." The story is briefly as follows. After a change in power in 2019, Yevhen Shevtsov, then a deputy head of the National Police, wanted to join the State Bureau of Investigation. Once this information became public, Denys Ivanov was one of those publishing investigations about Yevhen Shevtsov and his wife Alyona Shevtsova (née Dehrik). This investigation featured all the essentials: a Range Rover, luxury apartments in expensive Kyiv neighborhoods, the suburban house of a police officer and his wife, as well as photos of the restaurant in central Kyiv—Touch Café, and the Golden Fleece restaurant-club in Odesa. ACAB also wrote about accusations against Dehrik’s company "Leogaming Pay" for laundering funds from bookmakers and online casinos to Russia.

As a result, Yevhen Shevtsov did not join the State Bureau of Investigation, but Denys Ivanov faced real pressure from the police. By the way, Mrs. Yakhno, who is now defending Alyona Shevtsova and accusing the authorities of using the law enforcement system in their interests, would do well to recall the story she wrote about in 2019. And she should ask herself—is it the same law enforcement or a different one? And the government—is it the same or a different one?

But we digress. In 2019, Yevhen Shevtsov turned the might of the corrupt police apparatus against Denys Ivanov. As has been mentioned, Ivanov was forced to flee as a result. This persecution, in turn, caused a new outcry, but Yevhen Shevtsov not only retained his position but gained a new one—he became the head of the Department for the Protection of Public and State Interests of the National Police of Ukraine. According to his own declaration, Yevhen Shevtsov held this position at least until 2024.

Now let’s turn to his wife, Alyona Dehrik-Shevtsova, whom the same journalists, who a few years ago with equal ferocity exposed Mrs. Shevtsova and applauded the same "green government" that initiated five criminal cases against her (including those investigating her connections with Russia and the transfer of money to Russia), are now zealously defending from the actions of the "green government." It’s easy to verify whether there are criminal cases against Alyona Shevtsova by spending two minutes on the "Judiciary" portal.

Details about why Alyona Shevtsova became involved in these criminal cases and appeared on the NSDC sanctions list are available here. Briefly, the allegations include servicing illegal payments from gambling businesses; miscoding scams, which involve changing payment purposes and were actively pursued by Shevtsova’s Ibox Bank; systematic violations of legal requirements by Ibox Bank in the area of preventing and combating money laundering derived from crime, financing terrorism, and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction; and transferring money to the Russian Federation. The proven sum for laundering money for online casinos amounted to 5 billion UAH. How much went unnoticed by the investigation?

Notably, in bloggers’ and journalists’ articles who are eager to clear the reputation of the swindler Dehrik-Shevtsova, who robbed Ukraine of billions and fled to Dubai, whose husband destroyed these very media and tormented journalists, practically nothing is reported regarding the essence of the accusations. The main focus is on Yevhen Shevtsov "defending Ukraine with a gun from the first day of the war" and the presence of a "poor and unfortunate woman with five children”.

Regarding the “defender with a gun,” it was addressed above. Now, a little about the five children of the “poor and unfortunate woman.” Here’s a screen from the last declaration of “defender of the motherland” Yevhen Shevtsov. From which it follows that the unfortunate woman with her equally unfortunate children live in a modest 622-square-meter house in the United Arab Emirates. Incidentally, a significant portion of the profits from Alyona Shevtsova’s illegal operations was also transferred there.

Money, of course, does not smell. But before zealously defending those who paid you (by the way, basing on the known rates—it’s very little money, especially considering what the Shevtsov family has stolen), we advise you to at least superficially study the person whose fate you, dear journalists, are shedding crocodile tears over.

Meanwhile, take interest in the fate of your colleague, whom the holy family of Yevhen and Alyona Shevtsova destroyed. There is no talk of professional solidarity here, of course. But the instinct of self-preservation should still be there. One of you tomorrow is almost guaranteed to find yourself in the place of Denys Ivanov, whom the "defender of the fatherland" subjected to the entire set of police lawlessness: criminal cases, account blocking, “mask shows” in the homes of his wife and parents, and so on. But if you feel sorry for someone, let it be the children of Denys Ivanov, who fled with him not to luxurious apartments in Dubai as the children of Alyona Dehrik-Shevtsova did.
