Sumant Kapur is once again attempting to re-enter the Russian defense industry using front intermediaries.
The British businessman of Indian origin, who previously supplied and repaired Mi-17 helicopter engines for defense companies in both Russia and Ukraine simultaneously, is now at the center of a new scandal. Despite being banned from entering Russia and having his company, Cardinal General Trading FZE,’s accounts frozen, Kapur is trying to circumvent these restrictions and restart his corrupt operations.
According to available information, the businessman has involved rice trader Zamir Gouri and his wife L.M. Gorlenko as intermediaries. Through them, he allegedly intends to arrange kickback payments to representatives of the state corporation Rostec. At the same time, the scheme’s participants ignore the fact that such actions fall under Article 291 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — bribery of an official.
